Liverpool's exhibition soccer match against Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Stadium on July 27 was not a sellout yesterday. However, fans who have not secured seats, had best do so this morning from 9am when the 4,000 tickets remaining go on sale at the match venue, Hong Kong Stadium. Yesterday, nearly 12,000 tickets were snapped up by fans eager to see stars such as Michael Owen in action. The stadium capacity, usually 40,000, has been reduced to 36,000 for the pre-season visit of the English club. Some 2,000 fans queued up in sweltering heat, some for days, for their allocation of tickets. Standing proud at the front of the queue was Fifth Form student, Erica Lee, 18. She and her teenage friends had been taking turns in the queue since Thursday. After finally getting their hands on the tickets, they gave each other a big cheer and exclaimed: 'We're so happy! We can now go home for a shower and catch some sleep.' They rejected the $120 students' tickets and opted for the $350 seats. 'The cheaper seats are behind the goal. We would get a much better view with the more expensive ones,' Lee said. They said they would make some banners for the match. 'But nothing shallow such as 'Michael Owen is cute',' they stressed. Another group of female fans had their eyes fixed firmly on the England striker. 'We're here because of Owen,' said 17-year old Tina Chui, who queued for the tickets with two schoolmates from the Happy Valley school. 'He is so handsome. And he is a good footballer too,' they giggled. Liverpool can count on support too - from fans like 29-year-old Andrew Bliss, who hails from from Liverpool. He started queuing with his girlfriend at 8.30 on Friday morning. 'I'm not surprised to see so many people here today,' said the Hong Kong-based English teacher. 'It is the first big event after Sars and even people who are not Liverpool fans would like to see Owen in action.' Yu Kim, a 74-year old retiree, said he did not care which teams were playing. 'Some elders like me just have nothing better to do,' he said. 'I came here at 7.30 this morning and hopefully I'll see some good action.'
