An unobservant thief was arrested yesterday after he tried to sell a $10,000 gold chain to a jewellery shop in Yau Ma Tei - failing to notice that it still carried the price tag from the same store's Mongkok branch which reported it stolen just hours earlier. When the man handed the three-tael gold chain to a woman staff member at the Tse Sui Luen Jewellery Company in Nathan Road, she noticed that it still carried the Tse Sui Luen tag. Staff at the Yau Ma Tei shop had earlier been informed that a man had snatched a gold chain from the Mongkok store. The staff member told the man to wait while the chain was weighed to determine its value. She then informed her superior who called the police. Officers raced to the scene and confronted the 33-year-old man, who put up a struggle as he attempted to escape. However, he was overpowered and arrested. He was being detained for further inquiries last night. A policeman who suffered slight hand injuries while subduing the man was later treated and discharged from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
