A spokesman for Secretary for Education and Manpower Arthur Li Kwok-cheung yesterday said the former vice-chancellor of the Chinese University would move out of his Sha Tin residence, owned by the university, in October. Professor Li has been renting the home at the market rate since taking up his government post in July last year. A spokeswoman for Professor Li said he had asked the university if he could stay on in the house because his wife had been diagnosed with cancer and was physically unprepared to move. It was understood she had been receiving daily treatment at Prince of Wales Hospital since December after returning from the US where she received initial treatment. 'She has just recovered and finished her treatment last month,' a source said. The Prince of Wales Hospital is Chinese University's teaching hospital and is near the Li's current home.
