LIVERPOOL MIDFIELD general and England national team player Steven Gerrard says that the English Premier League giants have a 'good chance' to win more trophies this season. Gerrard spoke to Young Post over the phone before leaving for the club's whirlwind tour of Asia. 'We have a very good chance of winning the Premiership, and we will try to get back into the Champions League,' said the 22-year-old. Liverpool failed to qualify for this season's prestigious European club competition because they lost their final Premier League game against Chelsea last May, finishing in fifth place. Only the top four can compete in the Champions League. 'It was disappointing not to do it this season, but we should be playing there. It is where we belong. I hope we can do better next season,' Gerrard said. The Premier League championship race would be tighter than ever, he predicted. 'I think Manchester United and Arsenal will be right up there for league honours again,' said Gerrard, who missed out on last summer's World Cup because of injury. New signing Steve Finnan would make Liverpool a more dynamic side, he said. 'Steve Finnan (absent from the Asia tour because of injury) is a good signing and can get to the byeline and get crosses in. He can also play defensively.' After winning a domestic trophy last year, Gerrard is hungry for more success. 'My best moment last season was of course winning the Worthington Cup. That is what the club is all about - winning trophies. We played very well in that match.' But a few weeks' break from training this summer has taken its toll on Gerrard's fitness. He said his body needed a little re-tuning. 'I feel a bit tired. We only started training recently and it is a bit hard on the body and I feel stiff, but I feel all right.'
