COMMERCIAL RADIO assistant producer and DJ Inti Kwong Yuet-hang is one of the most prominent advocates of the local band scene. For the past seven- and-a-half years, her weekly radio show Inti Band has served as a platform for indie bands to publicise their music, and at the same time brings the latest gig information to the audience. Kwong says the Hong Kong indie scene has changed a lot. 'In the past, bands just sat there and waited to be signed by record companies, but now they are more active.' Indie music also gets more support these days, she says. 'Universities and youth centres encourage young people to play in bands.' The music style has changed a lot too. 'Years ago you might only hear heavy metal bands at a band show, but now you can listen to local bands playing punk, pop and electronic. Now a band show is held every Sunday at Victoria Park. You should go check it out.'
