TEENAGE WINDSURFER Yu Wing-ho clinched the boys' Mistral title in dramatic style at the ISAF Youth World Sailing Championships off Madeira, Portugal, last week. Wing-ho, 17, snatched glory from the jaws of defeat in the last race on the sixth and final day. The week-long tussle between him and Argentina's Mariano Benitez looked to have swung the South American's way. But Wing-ho's intelligent sailing helped edge out his rival in the crucial final race, with the local winning by just a single point overall. Hong Kong windsurfing coach Sam Wong praised Wing-ho's 'consistent' sailing. 'His performance was brilliant,' said Wong. It's Wing-ho's second gold medal this year. He also finished first at the Mistral Asian Championships held in Malaysia earlier this year. Before the young champion returns home on August 12, he will take part in the Mistral European Youth Championships in Poland, where he will aim for his second major title in a month.
