Abortion is a matter of choice

ABORTION is a matter of personal choice. Ms Brenda Donald (South China Morning Post, August 27) should know that people don't make this decision lightly. For most it is an extremely upsetting experience. Unfortunately there does not seem to be enough counselling anywhere about how to avoid pregnancy.

In an age where children are becoming sexually active at a much younger age, schools and parents still insist on treating sex as a dirty word.

If there was more education about pregnancies abortions would be fewer.

I found Ms Donald's tone alarming, as it parrots some of America's anti-abortion groups' unbending and narrow-minded view of what society should be. A woman's body is hers and hers alone. Whatever decision she makes she will have to be at peace with and that, in my opinion, is the only thing that matters.

External pressure on this matter is arrogant and hypocritical. N. I. ROGERS Mid-Levels
