Selected nursery schools allowed to cut fees

More than 10 per cent of nursery schools will be allowed to cut their fees in the coming academic year to attract more business.

Writing her weekly column on the Social Welfare Department's website, social welfare director Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said she had given approval to 49 nursery schools to cut their tuition fees, ranging from $20 a month to $1,200.

Tuen mun bus crash panel starts gathering views

The independent expert panel investigating the Tuen Mun Road bus accident last month, in which 21 people died, will today start gathering public views on how to improve safety on the highway. The one-month consultation will end on September 3. Most pupils lose holidays because of sars break

More than 76 per cent of pupils have had their summer holidays cut short because their schools wanted to make up for time lost during the Sars outbreak, a survey has shown. Sixty of them had a delayed summer holiday and the rest had to return to school for extra classes during the vacation. The survey, conducted by the Hong Kong Education Policy Concern Organisation, interviewed 4,366 primary and secondary school students.
