Now that every man and his dog has taken to keeping a flash memory drive on his key ring (or collar, as the case may be), someone had to come up with a way of improving things.
Storage maker SanDisk has released the Cruzer Mini, a high-speed USB drive that uses the USB 2.0 standard.
Coming in a choice of either 128 megabytes or 256MB, the Cruzer Mini should have adequate space to take home the weekend's work or a colleague's entire e-mail directory. Or even, as the company claims, 177 floppy disks - if you are patient. The company plans to release higher-capacity drives later in the year.
Due out this month, the drives will hit an already crowded market, where prices for low-capacity drives mean they are cheap enough to give away as marketing freebies.
But besides the capacity, the Cruzers do have one or two gimmicks to help shift units. For one thing, there is the 'light-pipe' status indicator on the side, to show how much memory is remaining.
