Amid fears of dengue fever, the property giant's contractor gets 20 summonses
A building site belonging to property developer Cheung Kong (Holdings) in Kowloon Tong has received 20 summonses for mosquito breeding at a time when public health officials are warning about possible outbreaks of deadly dengue fever.
The property giant's contractor at the 1 Beacon Hill luxury flat project, Wing Hong Construction, has continued to rack up regular convictions since building began in April last year. The contractor has been summonsed and fined eight times in the past two months alone.
The Food and Environmental Health Department disclosed that it had issued a total of 20 summonses against the contractor for mosquito breeding offences.
The department said warning letters had been sent to Cheung Kong expressing 'grave concern' and strongly advising that 'effective and prompt measures be taken to abate the mosquito breeding problem on the site'.
'Our hygiene and pest control staff have put the site under close surveillance and inspected it at weekly intervals. Dengue fever is likely on this site,' a spokesman for the department said, due to the amount of stagnant water on the five-hectare development.
'It's a huge site and we found mosquito-larvae breeding and have taken the strongest enforcement action.'
