The Open University of Hong Kong offers students the opportunity to study a distance-learning MBA in either English or Chinese.
The two programmes are designed around the same core curriculum, which has been developed in partnership between the Open University of Hong Kong and the Open University UK.
More than 800 students are in the English-based MBA programme, and 200 in the Chinese-based MBA programme.
Both programmes are designed for individuals seeking to develop business management skills within a study framework that emphasises the integration of functional knowledge acquired through case studies and mini-projects. In addition to online study, the programmes ensure substantial face-to-face contact.
To aid self-directed learning, all students are given study guides, which include textbooks and supplemental readings, audio-visual aids and CD-Rom learning aids.
'Students can access course materials and discuss with fellow students and tutors through Internet,' says associate professor Anthony Ko, who teaches management within the MBA programme. 'All tutors also provide telephone tutoring support to students at specific time slots.'
Students are organised into study groups of 20 to 25, which form the basis for learning teams and tutorial sessions. These groups often meet outside formal class time for study and social support.
