Where to ... eat out with the kids

Monique Chu

Model and mother-of-three Janet Ma chooses five of her favourite restaurants for dining

with children.

Gaia, The Piazza , Grand Millennium Plaza, 181 Queen's Road, Central, tel: 2167 8200.

'My family likes Italian cuisine and Gaia is excellent. The location is convenient and there is parking, but the best thing is the outdoor seating - you can have a meal outside in good weather.'

Golden Bauhinia, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Golden Bauhinia Square, Wan Chai, tel: 2582 7728 (pictured). 'I particularly like the deep-fried chicken marinated with garlic sauce and Beijing-style roast duck. It serves dim sum as well. The restaurant is spacious so kids can walk around safely.'

Shun Tak Fraternal Association, 2/F, 17 Jubilee Street, Central, tel: 2545 7910 (reservations essential). 'This restaurant is less spacious but the food is delicious. I like the fried fish mouth. They also have really good soups that are very rich in flavour - no MSG and they taste just like home-made soups.'

Tokio Joe, 16 Lan Kwai Fong, Central, tel: 2525 1889. 'My kids like this Japanese restaurant a lot. They always eat a couple plates of its grilled fugu [blowfish] before the main course. The appetisers are fantastic. I also like the beef and chicken teriyaki.'

Cafe TOO, 7/F, Island Shangri-la, 2 Pacific Place, Supreme Court Road, Central, tel: 2877 3838. 'Cafe TOO is a wonderful place for buffet dining. It has a wide variety of cuisines - Chinese, Japanese, Indian and others. The raw dishes are fresh and the place is big and comfortable.'
