SYBASE

Sybase Hong Kong has hired Andrew Low (right) as area vice-president of professional services and customer services and support for Asia-Pacific operations. He will be responsible for  the enterprise software firm's regional services business, and he reports to the general manager of Asia-Pacific operations.

Based in Singapore, Mr Low will be expected to improve the firm's business, especially in China and Korea, and lead a team that covers nine countries. He will oversee the Asia-Pacific management of Sybase's services strategy, management, and delivery of Sybase  professional services to its customers.

He will also be responsible for consulting, education, systems integration and packaged application implementation.

Mr Low has more than 20 years' experience in the IT industry.

Before joining Sybase, he was vice-president for Asia-Pacific consulting and integration at Hewlett-Packard where he spent 12 years.

He also spent two years at Compaq as vice-president for Asia Pacific Global Services. He also worked as general manager, Southeast Asia for software.

SCHEMA

Wireless networking firm Schema has appointed Clifford Shao as vice-president for Asia-Pacific sales. He will be based in the firm's new  regional headquarters in Hong Kong.

Schema specialises in planning and optimising wireless networks.

Mr Shao has 15 years experience in the telecommunications industry  in the region with companies including Logica, Scientific Atlanta, and Motorola.

Before joining Schema, he was managing director and founder of C-Cube, Asia Pacific. Before that, he was vice-president sales and marketing for Logica, where he oversaw strategic planning and developed relationships with mobile operators across the Asia Pacific region.

OPTIMAL

Optimal,  which provides design automation software for the semiconductor industry, has appointed Len Perham as chairman and Frank Lee to its board of directors.

Mr Perham spent 16 years at Integrated Device Technology (IDT), a company co-founded by Mr Lee in 1980. He became president and director in 1986 and was chief executive from 1991 to 2000. At IDT, he incubated several companies under the IDT umbrella.  Mr Perham is also chairman of the board at Hong Kong chip firm ASAT and for NetLogic Microsystems, a California-based networking firm.

He is on the board of GuideTech Technology and Ronal Systems  and a senior adviser to venture capital firm Asia-Tech Management. Mr Lee co-founded Galvantech, a maker of high-end SRAMs for data communication applications, where he served as president, chief executive and chairman until the company merged with Cypress Semiconductor in 2000.

Before  starting Galvantech in 1994, Mr Lee co-founded chip firm Paradigm Technology in 1987 and served as the vice-president of product development. From 1974 to 1980 Mr Lee was a member of the technical staff at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories. He is an active member of the board of directors for Rise Technology and serves as a member of the board of advisors for NetLogic Microsystems, Aplus Flash Technology and Ralink Technology. In 2001, he became a partner of technology investment firm Global Strategic Investment Fund.

INTENTIA

Enterprise software firm Intentia International has appointed Toshihiro Yoshida as president of the firm's Japanese operations, responsible for sales, services and marketing.

Based in Tokyo, Mr Yoshida's career includes management roles in software, storage and services. Mr Yoshida has 25 years of experience in the technology industry. Before joining Intentia, he worked with eBX Japan, where he served as the company's president and representative director. Before that, he was the president and representative director of Remedy Japan, and from 1993 to 1995, he held several posts such as vice-president of sales in Europe and president of Madge Networks in Japan.

He spent 16 years in various senior sales, marketing and leadership positions with IBM Japan.

PEREGRINE SYSTEMS

The  asset and management software firm Peregrine Systems has elected John Mutch as the company's president. He replaces Gary Greenfield. As part of the company's reorganisation, a new, seven-member board of directors was appointed.

Mr Mutch, 47, who joined the board in March, previously served as chief executive and president of HNC Software, a San Diego-based software company, which was acquired by Fair Issac and Co  in August 2002.

From 1994 to 1997, he was the founder and general partner of technology fund MVenture Holdings. Before  that, he spent seven years in sales and marketing at Microsoft. He also sits on the boards of Brio Software and Overland Storage.

The board also appointed James Jenkins as its chairman. Mr Jenkins, 55, also joined the board in June. Since July last year, he was a portfolio manager at Mellon HBV Alternative Strategies. Before that, he was senior managing director and head of investment banking at Advest. He is also a director of Telespectrum Worldwide.

BSI GROUP

Flemming Norklit (left) has been appointed as managing director of BSI Management Systems.

He will be responsible for the firm's global management systems operation, which is based in London with hubs in Hong Kong and the United States.

Mr Norklit will report directly to Stevan Breeze, managing director of BSI Group.

Last year, the management systems firm bought KPMG's American systems assessment business and now claims to have  more than 40,000 clients including Vodafone, Delphi, Ericsson, Sony, NEC, 3M Healthcare and Eastman Kodak.

He previously worked with Xerox at management and board level in Europe and the US, heading at various times the German and Danish country operations and channel business in Europe and Africa.

A Danish citizen, Norklit is married with two children and lives in Britain. He speaks five languages: English, German, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian.
