Closer cross-border links expected to stimulate growth in NT property sales
The government plans to develop a special trade zone in Lok Ma Chau to facilitate China trade with Hong Kong and overseas.
Under the proposal, mainlanders will be encouraged to conduct trade fairs and exhibitions in the area and would not have to apply for travel or business visas.
Analysts expect that, subject to approval from Hong Kong and the mainland government, the plan, together with the slight easing of the policy on individual travellers, will give the local economy a boost.
The move could also generate strong demand for investment properties in the northern New Territories and other districts, they said.
The Planning Department has proposed to earmark a massive site reclaimed from part of the Shenzhen River for exhibition use.
