A suspect who escaped from under the noses of police at Mongkok police station on Sunday was recaptured last night after another dramatic escape attempt, which ended with him dangling upside down from an eighth-floor window in Yau Ma Tei.
Passersby were shocked to see the 50-year-old man, Lau Tak-kam, hanging out of the window of a building occupied by cage men just after 6pm.
'He was dangling upside down and looked set to nose-dive on to the street,' one witness said.
Detectives looking for Lau had raided the building in Jordan Road, home to about 30 cage men.
While they were checking the residents against a photo of the wanted man, Lau sneaked away and clambered out a window near a toilet.
But one of the officers spotted him and called for him to stop, at which point Lau lost his balance and nearly fell from the ledge.
