HKUST queries university rankings
The University of Science and Technology has sought a clarification from business magazine Asia-Inc on its latest rankings of the region's business schools. Chinese University's Faculty of Business Administration came top in East Asia for the second year running in the survey, while HKUST was unchanged on fourth. But HKUST said 52 per cent and 54 per cent of its business school students were women and international students respectively, contrary to 10 per cent for both categories cited in the poll. More than 60 schools were assessed on the basis of faculty and student quality, and academic reputation in the survey.
Former UGC head to chair CUHK council
Former head of the University Grants Committee and member of the Education Commission Edgar Cheng Wai-kin will succeed Dr Lee Hon-chiu as chairman of the University Council at Chinese University from October 24. Dr Lee will retire later this year after six years in the job.
OUHK commences Shenzhen operation
Open University has opened an office in Shenzhen to increase its distance learning programmes in the mainland in areas such as e-commerce and Internet applications. In addition, it will provide multi-media education, corporate training and consultancy services, and produce learning materials.
