Happy Valley's Cameroonian star Ambassa Guy Gerard has been stricken by the liver disease hepatitis. Ambassa, who was named as one of the SAR's best strikers in last season's Top Footballers awards despite playing primarily as a defender, was confirmed as suffering from the ailment on the eve of the new season. 'He was sick last week and had urine and blood tests and got the results back the night before the game,' said team manager Lim Fong-kee. 'He's found out he has hepatitis and will be out for two months.'
The news surprised the Valley players, who had not all been told of the diagnosis as they celebrated their opening day victory. 'I didn't know about that. Wow. That's really sad news for JJ and the team,' said Ezeh Barnes Colly. 'He's one of the key players. He defends and he scores goals. Two months - that's a big loss.' The loss of Ambassa will speed up Happy Valley's search for new imports, which was already a priority after the loss of last season's top scorer Keith Gumbs.
