An airfare war looks set to break out in Australia with a new no-frills airline being mooted to challenge Virgin Blue for cut-price domestic routes, according to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald. Qantas flagged plans for a new discount airline last month, and a final decision is expected to be made in November. If it goes ahead, the airline will be run independently of Qantas. Virgin Blue took more than 30 per cent of the Australian domestic market last year, the paper said.
