Health secretary to meet officials in Guangdong
Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food Yeoh Eng-kiong will visit Guangdong on Sunday to discuss a system for reporting cross-border diseases. On the two-day trip, Dr Yeoh will meet senior health officials and visit the province's Centre for Disease Control. On Tuesday, he will travel to Manila to attend a World Health Organisation regional conference that will plan the United Nation agency's work over the next five years in the western Pacific region.
Emily lau reports office attack to police chief
The Frontier legislator Emily Lau Wai-hing yesterday wrote to Police Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui to complain after vandals smeared faeces on the door to her Sha Tin district office on Wednesday night. She said she was concerned about the safety of public figures. The attack is believed to be linked to Ms Lau's appearance at a seminar in Taipei last month organised by a pro-independence think-tank led by former president Lee Teng-hui.
Confidence in politics and economy up, survey shows
Political and economic confidence in Hong Kong rose sharply last month, a survey by the Hong Kong Policy Research Institute found. The monthly study recorded higher readings in 19 out of 22 categories, including the economic prospects of Hong Kong and the mainland, the stock market, property and government performance. Respondents were most confident that the unemployment rate would improve.
