Samsung has introduced a pair of 15-inch and 17-inch liquid-crystal display (LCD) televisions - perfect for desktops or small bedrooms in Hong Kong - priced at just $6,980 and $8,800, respectively.

The prices of LCD TVs have come down to affordable levels in the past 12 months - Sharp's 20-inch Aquos is selling in Fortress for $9,900.

Wrapped in a dull grey and silver case, the Samsung LS17E34C is a typical example of subtle product design that works. The screen looks good and, perhaps more importantly, there is nothing flashy to distract from the viewing area. Bright, flashy nameplates placed too close to the screen can often become a focal point and distract the viewer from the screen if they stand out against the frame.

The integrated speakers are probably insufficient, so you will want to augment them with a couple of side-mount speakers at least.
