knowledge is strength
China Telecom's coming-out party in Hong Kong gave the firm a golden opportunity to impress. The firm's first big results presentation was cancelled in the spring due to Sars and anticipation was high.
Alas, analysts milling around the presentation were heard grumbling about the firm's general lack of disclosure.
Once top management had been spirited away, a flunky was left to smooth feathers. Asked how he thought the firm had scored in the transparency stakes he fired back, '90 per cent'. As chuckles ensued, he asked for forbearance: 'Give us time to improve. When China Mobile listed they weren't that great either.'
On the basis that self-realisation is the key to self-improvement, the firm looks to be on track.
