Where to ... eat with style

Monique Chu

Carol 'Do Do' Cheng Yu-ling has been in show business for more than two decades. The stylish, sophisticated and versatile actress has won recog-nition in television, film and as a skilful game show host. The following five restaurants are her favourite.

Va Bene, 58 D'Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong, Central, tel: 2845 5577. 'This restaurant serves fresh Italian food and they use the best ingredients in the market. The chef is fabulous and seeks to refine his skills by visiting Italy every year.'

Morton's of Chicago, 4/F, Sheraton Hotel, 20 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2732 2343. 'The steaks served in Morton's are brought in fresh from the United States daily. The steaks are rather big, so I recommend ladies choose the tenderloin and order it medium-rare. I especially like the spinach salad but the restaurant also serves brilliant seafood and dessert dishes.'

Amigo, 79A Wong Nai Chung Road, Happy Valley,

tel: 2577 2202. 'I particularly like the Mongolian beef (pictured above). The environment is wonderful, which might explain why the restaurant has survived for so many years.'

Hang Zhou Hometown Restaurant, 9 Lan Fong Road, tel: 2894 9705. 'The restaurant is not grand but the food is top quality. I think some of Hong Kong's past colonial governors used to visit it. My favourite dishes are fried sliced yellow eel with soup noodles. There is no MSG in the soup so it fits my healthy eating style.'

Ning Po Association, 4/F, Yip Fung Building, 12 D'Aguilar Street, Central, tel: 2523 0648. 'The dishes served here are rich in flavour and generally delicious, but rather oily. Though I am afraid of getting fat, I do need to indulge sometimes. Rich flavours make me feel happier.'
