Queen Mary
Now mod is cool again I'd like to get some of that dramatic make-up. Does anyone sell Mary Quant cosmetics any more?
Sixties Chick, Causeway Bay
The Dictator rules: How sad - a fashion icon reduced to eye shadow. And don't even think about that stuff if you wore it first-time round. When Mary Quant, the woman who popularised the mini skirt, released a collection in the Sixties, everyone listened and followed her lead. Now it seems only Japan values the brand. But believe it or not, Mary Quant is still around. There are even two Mary Quant Colour Concept shops in Hong Kong: Shop G39, Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong (tel: 2265 7338), and Shop 2114, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui (tel: 2314 0133). In addition to a full make-up line, they also stock jewellery, bags, mobile-phone accessories and more bits and pieces sporting her famous daisy logo. Did you know Quant released her make-up line to do away with heavy, 'old-style' cosmetics? That's right, she believed skin should look baby perfect. Her only emphasis was on the eyes. Whether you buy her products or another brand, achieve the look by applying a colourful eye shadow, a thick strip of eyeliner above the lashes, and fake eyelashes or heavy mascara top and bottom. Forego heavy lipstick in favour of subtle lip gloss and you're looking groovy.
Hair today, gone tomorrow
Where can I buy 'Vitalis'? It seems to have disappeared into thin air.
