Chau to contest Bid for his personal assets Shanghai businessman Chau Ching-ngai appears to be challenging a bid by the receivers of Shanghai Land Holdings to seize control of his personal assets. Shanghai Land receivers, Stephen Liu Yiu-keung and Kenneth Yeo Boon Ann, have obtained a court order to take possession of Chau's assets in an attempt to recoup US$34.2 million which he allegedly owes Shanghai Land. Yesterday, the receivers said 'a firm of solicitors' had been appointed to act for Chau. VARITRONIX INTERIM SOARS 31PC ON CONSUMER DEMAND Varitronix International interim earnings jumped 37.1 per cent to HK$67.01 million, thanks to growing demand for automotive and telecommunications products. For the first half to June, the liquid crystal display maker had a 22.8 per cent jump in turnover to $613.05 million. It raised its dividend payout to seven cents, and will pay a 21 cent special 25th anniversary dividend. Tom.com finalises deal Tom.com has completed the acquisition of a 64 per cent stake in CETV and will consolidate its operating results and balance sheet into Tom.com from yesterday. Tom.com also is finalising a deal to buy voice messaging firm, Beijing Leitingwuji Network Technology, from its major shareholder Solina Chau Hoi-suen. Human error to blame for ezcom profit restatement Mobile-handset distributor Ezcom Holdings said unaudited net profit for the seven months to October last year was incorrectly stated in a company document. Instead of HK$67.7 million in unaudited net profit, it should have been $33.3 million, it said. 'Human input error' was blamed. Grande makes $141m net Consumer electronics manufacturer Grande Holdings posted a 20.5 per cent year-on-year gain in net profit to HK$141million for the first half. Turnover rose 6.7 per cent year on year to $3.76 billion.
