MORE than 500 family and business friends from around the world joined the local Jewish community to pay tribute to tycoon Lord Kadoorie in a memorial service at the Ohel Leah Synagogue in Robinson Road yesterday. The former chairman of China Light and Power Company, the first person born in Hong Kong to be elevated to the House of Lords, died aged 94 last week. Old friend and former chief secretary Sir Jack Cater described him as a ''true Victorian''. ''Not just somebody born in the reign of that Mother of the Empire, but somebody who strongly believed in those Victorian virtues of honesty in personal and business matters when a man's word was his bond; a belief in hard work, in morality, humility and charity,'' Sir Jack said.
