It's never been so cool to go retro - and that is exactly what the Mandarin Grill did in honour of the Mandarin Oriental's 40th anniversary. Diners are being offered meals at 1960s prices, allowing them to enjoy a full three-course feast for less than $100. Needless to say, the response has been overwhelming. Popular dishes have included 1960s favourites such as steak Diane ($25), pepper steak ($25), plus desserts like cherries jubilee ($10) and crepe Suzette ($10) served flambe style. In typical Hong Kong fashion, the offer has attracted a broad range of customers, such as the cheapskate who drank tap water (a good thing that wasn't 1960s vintage) to make the most of the savings. Others went all out on fine wine and racked up table bills of $50,000. The promo ends Saturday, and the restaurant is already overbooked, so don't bother calling.
