AN unemployed man was yesterday ordered to be detained in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre for two years for attempting to rape a 73-year-old woman. The order was made by Mr Justice Bewley after two doctors recommended that Chung Yiu-fat, 35, who had been suffering from schizophrenia with active psychotic symptoms for years, receive in-patient treatment. Chung, represented by Peter Callaghan, pleaded guilty to attempted rape. Senior Assistant Crown Prosecutor Barry Moorfoot told the court that the woman was in the kitchen of her hillside home in Tuen Mun on February 13 when she was assaulted. Chung emerged from a graveyard and attacked her. He pushed her down and tried to rape her but ran away after his attempts failed. He returned five days later to try to rape the woman again, the court heard. But the woman alerted her son who chased Chung and caught him near a reservoir.
