IF you've already signed the petition, got the T-shirt and watched the television programme, there is now another way to show your support for Beijing's bid for the 2000 Olympic Games. By dialling 187 8828 and listening to a recorded message in Cantonese, Mandarin and English, your call will be recorded as a vote of confidence in Beijing. ''We will be counting up all the phone calls and sending details to the International Olympic Committee [IOC] of how many people in Hong Kong support China's bid,'' said Alexander Wan Wah, spokesman for the United Support for Beijing 2000 committee. He said that from next week the number would be used to play the Beijing theme tune and give updates on any pro-Beijing bid activities happening around town. Director of corporate affairs for Hongkong Telecom, Peter Hamilton, said the company was firmly behind Beijing's bid, because of the benefit to Hong Kong. ''This is a way that we can give other people the opportunity to demonstrate their support for Beijing's bid,'' he said. The lines will be open until the IOC makes its decision in Monte Carlo, in the early hours of September 24 (Hong Kong time).
