For someone like DJ Simon, who grew up with a wide variety of music since early childhood, becoming a DJ came naturally and was an easy way to make money.

'It was my dream job when I was 20. The working hours were only half those of the bar staff, but with three times the cash,' he says.

Unlike many DJs in Hong Kong, Simon began his music career in Greece. In 1989, with his reputation for interesting dance music, from rare groove to hip hop, he held a summer residence in a bar called Metro in Corfu, Greece.

Later, he ran the sales department for some record labels, and through that work he picked up on various genres that he would never have imagined playing. He describes his style as eclectic, full of funk and hip hop elements.

Apart from spinning at 1/5 twice a month on Deano Martino nights, he also holds a Hong Kong Eclectic every Friday night at Elements, which also features DJ Steve Bruce.

'I also plan to have a breakbeat affair called Erratica next month at the new Yumla bar [former Phi-b] and Rude Movements set at the White Room at Fusion in Shanghai.'
