Property deals on 470 units surpass the average for a two-day weekend

Hong Kong homebuyers were not deterred over the weekend by property developers' decision to boost prices, with sales of primary residential units slightly stronger.

Primary sales of residential property over the weekend were at least 470 units, compared with about 680 units in the previous long weekend - which spanned three days - and about 400 units for a normal two-day weekend.

Sun Hung Kai Properties offered its first batch of 48 units at Sham Wan Towers in Ap Lei Chau last night, priced at an average of $4,200 per square foot. The sale finished within one hour.

The property developer said it was confident that all units in the internal sale would be sold last night and agents expected the internal offer would receive an overwhelming response. They expected the prices would range between $3,900 and $4,900 per square foot.

Other than the Sham Wan Towers development, primary sales at other residential development also saw enthusiastic response, with PCCW's Residence Bel-Air the most popular, property agents said.
