Sun Microsystems has donated HK$11 million worth of hardware and software to City University of Hong Kong, allowing for a third research centre in computing and communication. The facility will look into pervasive computing - or computing and communication any time, anywhere, with any device. Meanwhile, City University vice-president Professor David Tong unveiled the centre's first research project, Skynet, in collaboration with Peking University. Peking University runs the Tianwang search engine, which has become one of the three most popular in the mainland. Skynet will adopt Tianwang's architecture to crawl webpages and provide some Web services.
