With military precision, Yves Saint Laurent's autumn/winter show was as smooth as the satin fabric the girls wore down the catwalk. Security was tight around the makeshift stage on the mezzanine floor of the Grand Hyatt, the entrance to the VIP lounges at the top of the grand staircase. We were told that there would be no gatecrashers and only A-list glitterati would make the cut, namely: Kevin and Reina Chau (from Franck Muller group), actor/model celebrity couple Michael Wong and Janet Ma, Wharf's Peter Woo Kwong-ching and wife Bessie, and Mira and V-Nee Yeh, the property tycoon. And all the way from Milan came the president and chief executive of Gucci Group, Domenico De Sole and his wife Eleanore. Glamour-pusses Jessica Ng Yuk-moi (the bubbly chief executive of South China Media Group), Balbina Wong (of Lane Crawford), former actress Gigi Fu Ming-hin and Claire Hsu (goddaughter of tycoon Nina Wang), competed for attention with apparent nonchalance. But Pansy Ho Chiu-king beat them all, courtesy of her arrival in a barely-there top. Designer store Tabla's greatest modelling exponent, Tanya Mohan, waltzed in with her gorgeous friends, Michelle Li and Marie-France Fatien. They arrived just in time as the guards barred late-comers once the show kicked off - there was some behind-the-seams drama outside that everyone's keeping mum about. Fashion TV (fTV) founder Michel Adams was one of the surprise guests in the sea of 500 fashionable folk, flanked by Amazonian models throughout the night. 'This is the sort of event that fTV would cover and why we're setting up base in Hong Kong. There's a genuine interest in fashion; the guests are as glamorous as those on the catwalk. All the major brands have a base here and so will we.'
