Indian music expert DJ Akhil has brought a whole new sound to the local club scene with his authentic Bollywood beats. Originally from Delhi, Akhil is now a resident DJ at Bombay Dream Central until the end of October. He says that just like Hong Kong and so many other big cities, India has a vibrant club scene. 'Major clubs are usually attached to five-star hotels, such as CJ's at Le Meridien in Delhi, where I hold my residency. 'The most popular music is obviously the hip Indian or Bollywood style. However, there is now a strong swing to mix with hip-hop, house and rhythm and blues. 'Indian DJs are also getting worldwide recognition for their ability to create a fusion of Western and Indian music,' says Akhil. Inspired by his elder brother, also a DJ, Akhil has been a spinning discs for more than eight years. Although he did not have any formal training, he has been watching all the top Indian DJs performaning since he was young. He began practising under his brother's guidance and made his live debut when he was 15. Akhil says that apart from Bollywood and funky hip-hop, he likes to play psychedelic and trance. He will release his first, yet-to-be-named album in the first week of January.
