Local under-23 athletes will join 16,000 competitors from more than 80 cities, special economic zones and municipalities at next month's biggest-ever National City Games in Hunan Province. Hong Kong will send 89 athletes to compete in 13 sports at the 10-day mega-event to be held in Changsha city from October 18. Hong Kong sent a 68-member delegation for its debut in the City Games four years ago in Xian. SAR sprinter To Wai-lok won a silver medal in the men's 100 metres, and swimmer Fu Wing took bronze in the men's 50m freestyle. Three Hong Kong records in swimming, athletics and shooting were established. This time the SAR will compete in swimming, diving, athletics, badminton, gymnastics, shooting, table tennis, baseball, cycling, fencing, rowing, windsurfing, tennis and wushu. The Hong Kong squad includes many talented young athletes still in secondary school or university, such as Yu Hoi-ping, Chung Kwok-leung and Chan Wing-suet (swimming), and Casey Tse Ka-chun and Yu kwok-sze (table tennis).
