Highly regarded German jockey Torsten Mundry (right) jetted into Hong Kong yesterday and will open the latest chapter of his career at Sha Tin on Sunday. Mundry, 32, has ridden over 900 winners, including 27 Group winners. He also had a successful stint in Macau last year, riding 35 winners from 238 rides. 'Torsten is consistently in the top three jockeys of Germany, along with [Andrasch] Starke and [Andreas] Suborics,' said Jockey Club director of racing Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges. 'The fact he has already been exposed to the style of Asian racing, during his stint in Macau, and adapted to it successfully, makes us confident he will be making his mark in Hong Kong as well.' Mundry's major race wins include the German Derby (twice), the German St Leger, the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, and the Preis von Europa.
