As the country starts the week-long National Day holiday, lonely hearts are taking to internet chat rooms to find travel partners.
Many single people are also going online to look for a partner for the holiday.
The Tom.com website, among others, has set up a special site and text-messaging service for singles who want to meet people to travel with this week. The service provides biographical information of the lonely hearts, along with details of where they would like to visit.
Echo Zhang, a 27-year-old secretary from Shanghai, was one of those who answered an internet posting from a man looking for a travel partner. 'Firstly I would just like to meet more people,' she said. 'But it would be nice, of course, if the person I travelled with turned out to be Mr Right.'
She said she was not afraid for her safety in travelling with a stranger as she would meet the man first before finally agreeing to travel with him.
A 23-year-old engineer from Tianjin advertised for a partner to visit Beijing with for a few days. 'I really want to improve my social skills as I think I'm very conservative,' he said. 'I don't have high expectations of meeting a girlfriend but if it happened that would be great.'
