Robber threatens shop assistant with sword

A robber escaped with $400 from a convenience store in North Point after threatening an employee with a samurai sword early yesterday. The man ran from the ground-floor shop in the Provident Centre in Wharf Road at 4am after the female employee, 41, handed over the cash. Police are searching for the man.

West Kowloon Project won't be divIded up

The government has rejected calls for the Norman Foster-designed West Kowloon cultural district to be divided into several components so that small developers can play a role. The Housing, Planning and Lands Bureau said yesterday the move would complicate the project and cost the taxpayer more than the $24 billion budget.

Polytechnic university awarded $30m in grants

The Polytechnic University has been given more than $30 million in research grants, the largest single batch of grants given to the university in its history. The projects to be funded by the government's Innovation and Technology Fund cover miniaturised moulding machines and nano-manufacturing, motion animation processing, textile manufacturing and 'bat ear' devices to assist the visually impaired.
