Two mainland fishermen were rescued yesterday but a third is missing after the trio's boat capsized southeast of Sai Kung on Thursday night.
The search will resume for the missing man at daybreak today. He became separated from his companions when they swam for shore.
Yeung Shing-loong, 31, and Chan Hung, 22, were found to be suffering only minor hand and leg injuries when they were picked up by helicopter from a rocky beach on Basalt Island. They were detected from the air by thermal scanners which picked up their body heat early yesterday morning but they could not be rescued until high winds subsided at noon.
The alarm was raised when the men used a mobile phone to alert Shenzhen authorities late on Thursday night. Hong Kong rescuers were then informed.
The men, who had been working at fishponds in Zhuhai, were returning to Shenzhen via Hong Kong waters when the accident happened.
