315 arrested in kowloon anti-vice operation
Police arrested 42 men and 273 women in a joint anti-vice operation in West Kowloon that ended yesterday. The women were all two-way permit holders. Together with officers from the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority, immigration and customs, a total of $1 million worth of pirated obscene video and compact discs, about 5,500 dutiable cigarettes and more than $7,000 in cash were seized in the operation.

The cut in Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) has put recipients deeper into the red, the Caritas Community Development Service has found. It surveyed 103 families receiving the assistance before and after the CSSA cut in June. Results showed since the cut was introduced, 77.7 per cent, or double the number before, had fallen into debt as a result. Tension between family members had also increased and some families felt they were being bullied by the government, Caritas said.
man, 27, stabbed after confronting robbers
A 27-year-old man was stabbed when he struggled with two men who had earlier robbed a woman of $2,700 at knifepoint while she was on her way to work in Lam Tin. The pair fled after stabbing their pursuer in the back. He and the victim, 37, who suffered cuts to her thumbs, were taken to United Christian Hospital for treatment. Police later combed the area and arrested a suspect, 29, nearby and recovered part of the money.
