A new coalition is to be formed in the next few days to co-ordinate the district council election campaigns of pro-democracy candidates. Shiu Yeuk-yuen, convenor of Anti-Tung Solidarity, said the alliance would organise a rally next month in support of more than 200 candidates. He said the coalition would comprise groups calling either for constitutional reform or the resignation of Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa. 'It is a rehearsal for next year's Legislative Council election. We hope pro-democracy candidates in the Legco poll will not fight against each other,' Mr Shiu said. Mr Shiu said that he was working out details of the yet-to-be-named coalition with Joseph Cheng Yu-shek, convenor of Power for Democracy. Representatives of 10 political parties and groups have agreed on a shared platform for the district council poll demanding further democratisation.
