Tuesday night was nostalgia night at the home of Nancy Nash - doyenne of the HK party circuit and one-time PR supremo of the Hong Kong Hilton. The occasion was a birthday party for veteran journalist and war correspondent Clare Hollingworth, now 92 years young. Among the guests at the exclusive shindig were former SCMP news editor Sarah Monks and her husband, Tom, and former SCMP columnist and broadcaster Ted Thomas. Clare is famed for scoring some of her biggest scoops while embedded with General Bernard Montgomery's 8th Army before the Battle of El Alamein. Guests donned safari suits and pith helmets to make Clare feel at home. 'Last time I dined at Nancy's place,' said Ted, 'was with Nancy Kwan - star of The World of Suzy Wong. Luckily I wasn't required to wear a cheongsam'. There'll be another party (most likely at Clare's favourite watering hole, the FCC), when her latest book hits bookstands on November 14.
