KITCHEE are looking to add experience to their young team by signing 32-year-old midfielder Mike Matthews.
The chairman of the Hong Kong First Division club, Fred Ng Chi-keung, contacted the Hull-born Matthews yesterday and is hoping to clinch a deal by the end of the week.
Matthews, who will be 33 this month, has played over 350 league games for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Scunthorpe United, Halifax Town, Scarborough, Stockport County and Hull City. He is available on a free transfer.
Kitchee, who are awaiting the arrival of former South China and Eastern striker Dale Tempest on September 14, left the territory for a four-game tour of Taiwan yesterday.
Their overseas signings are central defenders Jason Loryman and Jon Widdows, midfielder Chris Ferdinand and striker David Jones. Widdows, a club vice-captain this season, and former Kui Tan defender Loryman are both on one-year deals, while Ferdinand and Jones are on a month's trial.
