Underscoring the rise in crime, there were two attempted bank robberies yesterday. The first was at a branch of Fortis Bank in Tsuen Wan where a man handed a teller a note demanding $100,000 and produced a pistol-like object. Police said the man, aged about 50 and wearing glasses and a grey coat, fled the scene when an alarm was tripped. Three hours later, a man tried to rob a branch of Jian Sing Bank in Tsim Sha Tsui. He said he had a gun and a bomb and demanded $50,000. He also fled empty-handed after a supervisor called the police. The police are seeking any information that might lead to the arrest of the men.
