China's first manned space flight and the deeds of the country's first astronaut, Yang Liwei, will feature in Hong Kong school textbooks.

Elvin Lee Ka-kui, publishing director of the Hong Kong Educational Publishing Company, said his company would revise its history textbooks to include the mission.

The company is one of the biggest publishers of secondary school textbooks in Hong Kong. He said physics textbooks for senior secondary students would also be revised to include details of the manned space flight.

Revised editions will be available for the 2004-05 school year.

Mr Lee said his company was also planning to insert media reports about the manned space flight in reading material for Chinese and English-language subjects in secondary schools.
