The restaurant Spoon by Alain Ducasse finally opens its doors at the Intercontinental Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui. After two nights of taste tests with the likes of Stanley Ho Hung-sun, Pansy Ho Chiu-king, Harriet Tung Wan Chi-wah, and pretty much all of the food editors in Hong Kong, it is time to open up one of the most hyped-up restaurants to the public. The 'normal Joe' can now freely saunter in and try what has been labelled some of the world's best contemporary French cuisine. Ducasse - the only French chef to be awarded nine Michelin stars - is in Hong Kong until tomorrow to oversee the opening. The restaurant has taken more than two years to complete, with the design handled by Tony Chi from New York whose list of credits include Elite Concepts' Kokage and Cinecitta in Hong Kong. Chi has showcased the Intercontinental's breathtaking harbour view, which is reflected with the help of 550 handmade mercury glass spoons, broadcasting the vista to all corners of the restaurant. On the other side, you can peer into an open kitchen to see the chefs preparing your meal. This is the fifth Spoon to open internationally. Call 2313 2256 to make a reservation.
