Hong Kong's art aficionados converged to celebrate the birth of Opera Hong Kong (OHK). As the cocktails started to flow, guests strolled in wearing their best, congratulating art director Warren Mok, OHK chairman Moses Cheng and Patrick Yeung, chairman of the fundraising committee, who welcomed everyone into the Academy for Performing Arts. The guest of honour was Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung Oi-sie who led the presentation ceremony to thank all their sponsors, with PCCW's Bel Air being the title sponsor. OHK reportedly raised more than $1 million, with sponsors from all corners of the world. More than 1,000 of Hong Kong's veteran art lovers attended the inaugural opera performance: among them, Hopewell Holdings chairman Sir Gordon Wu, Consul-General of France Serge Mostura, Consul-General of Italy Gabriella Meneghello, just to name a few. The opera performance was truly world class, with international talent from all over the world. Soloists and performers from the US, Belgium, Austria, Spain, France, and Hong Kong made the event a complete success. They were backed by the very prominent International Orchestra of Italy, flown in to play for just one night. It was definitely a show not to be missed.
