Exciting prospect Beethoven, with two wins and an unlucky second from three runs, has kicked off the new-season's Ten To Follow on a winning note.
Clint Hutchison's Ten To Follow is now in its third year and has been maintained by popular demand. It was highly profitable in the 2001-02 season, with the team winning 13 races and providing backers with a 40 per cent profit on turnover at a level stake.
Last year, the elite betting stable performed even better, with the team winning 16 races.
Hutchison's judgment was underlined when he identified emerging star Self Flit as the team headliner for 2002-03 when the New Zealand-bred was still a restricted-class horse. Self Flit went straight through to the top grade, winning the Group One Classic Mile and finishing second to Elegant Fashion in the Derby.
This year, the Ten to Follow will be a work in progress. Every month, we'll review the progress made by the stable stars and update them. Hutchison will sack any horse that either goes amiss, or doesn't measure up to strict performance criteria, and replace it with another smart individual that has taken his eye at trackwork or at the trials.
This month features four additions - Super Charge, Ain't Here, Lucky Sixer and King Of Field. They have replaced Northern Magnate, Zero In, Recovery and Just Victory.
