Harbour Fest finally produced a night to match the high-adrenaline Prince opener, despite the fact that more than 10,000 tickets had to be given away to produce the desired result.
Fans packed the Tamar venue to see two bands that should have been the support for all-girl British fluff rockers Atomic Kitten, who cancelled when singer Natasha Hamilton went down with flu.
Raunchy Russian teenage rockers t.A.T.u and the ubiquitous local starlets Twins made sure the all-girl event was a success for Harbour Fest's organisers.
First on were Charlene Choi Tsoek-jin and Gillian Chung Yan-tong - all cute and delicate femininity, eye glitter twinkling in the stage lights as they delivered Canto-pop tunes through their trademark head mikes.
They opened with Summer Howls and Next Station Tin Hau. They were on stage for barely 45 minutes, but they put the crowd in the mood for the raucous Russians, top-of-the-bill by default.
And what a contrast it was.
