Former RTHK boss becomes charity deputy head

Cheung Man-yee, former head of Radio Television Hong Kong, has been appointed vice-chairman of the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund. Ms Cheung, 56, who retired this year, will assist fund chairman David Mong Tak-yeung in looking after its disbursements to charitable bodies.

Man attempts robbery with flammable liquid

A robber threw a bottle of burning liquid inside a pawn shop in Kwun Tong yesterday before fleeing empty-handed. The mask-wearing man entered the pawn shop in Yan Oi Court about 1.30pm and demanded money. The store employee set off an alarm and the robber smashed the bottle and fled. No one was injured.

Election campaigners involved in scuffle

Two women campaigners for rival candidates in the District Council elections were involved in a scuffle in Tseung Kwan O last night. A woman campaigning for a Democratic Alliance for Betterment for Hong Kong candidate was allegedly pushed to the ground by a woman campaigning for a Democratic Party candidate. Police said the latter campaigner was last night assisting investigations into an alleged assault.

Four Vietnamese swim ashore at Shek O Beach

Four Vietnamese - two men and two women - were arrested after they swam ashore at Shek O Beach. Police also arrested a taxi driver and a woman - both Hong Kong residents - suspected of waiting to pick them up. A lifeguard spotted the swimmers and alerted police about 11.30am. They are all being held for questioning.

110 women arrested in anti-prostitution raids

More than 110 women were arrested in an anti-vice operation mounted by police in West Kowloon up until 11pm last night. The raids were set to continue through the night and this morning.
