Flush with the rapid recapture of its reputation for high-quality phones, Sony Ericsson last week announced two interesting new mobiles - the P900 (which we will be taking a closer look at next week) and the T630.

On the face of it, the main difference between the T630 and the T610, which it replaces, is the colour. The T610 came in bold red, blue and black, but the T630 comes in a more conservative transparent silver.

The phone offers a new program, called My Friends, that merges e-mail, chat, text and multimedia messaging under a single interface, to make it faster to select.

Presumably eyeing Nokia's recent accomplishments, Sony Ericsson is playing up the T630's gaming features. The phone's upgraded 65,000 colour TFT screen can be flipped from vertical to horizontal; making a big difference in some games and picture taking.

The phone comes bundled with the car-racing game V-Rally2. It is also compatible with the new Gameboard controller and external flash unit. As before, the T630 offers triband GSM and GPRS, Quickshare for two-click photo taking, Bluetooth and 32-tone polyphonic sound.

Sony Ericsson claims its battery has a life of 315 hours standby and 14 hours of talk time.
